The buying lifted Alibaba as much as 3.2% Wednesday after an HK$80B share sale amplified concerns that its AI push will squeeze profits.
Alibaba plans RMB380B+ ($56.5B) in AI spending over three years. AI revenue is forecast near a $10B annualized rate this quarter, up from ~$7.3B, even as margins shrink. The trade-off: AI scale versus near-term returns.
