This accounting blind spot is a critical missing piece of a widely accepted story about AI’s economic impact: that AI investment is enormous, but its effect on GDP growth is modest because much of the spending goes to imported technology goods, which subtract from GDP.

What's missing from that story is that tens of billions of dollars' worth of those imports is really Nvidia's value-add returning to the US inside foreign-built hardware.
