China’s brain-computer interface (BCI) industry is starting to move from private funding to public markets.
Several home-grown BCI companies are now preparing for IPOs in China, with Shanghai’s Star Market emerging as a preferred destination for the sector.
The latest is Shanghai-based Arfysica Innovation, which has registered for IPO coaching ahead of a potential Star Market listing. Founded in 2015, the company develops BCI-related products for central nervous system injuries and cognitive disorders.
Another candidate, Shanghai-based Neuracle Medical Technology, signed an IPO coaching agreement with CITIC Securities earlier this year. Neuracle has also won China’s first regulatory approval for an implantable BCI system designed to help patients with spinal cord injuries regain hand movement.
BCIs are designed to translate brain signals into commands for external devices such as computers or robotic limbs. Neuralink has brought the technology into the global spotlight, but China is now building its own group of commercial players.
