Nvidia officially announced that they are buying HuggingFace for $12.93B.
On the Huggingface numbers, its currenly used by 18M+ developers and 200K companies, and hosts 3M+ models, 500K datasets and 1M applications.
So gives Nvidia a solid position in AI distribution, evaluation and deployment.
Nvidia anyway, massively benefits for more open source adoption, and that strategy was already visible in the Nemotron Coalition, which Nvidia launched with Mistral AI, Perplexity, Thinking Machines Lab and other open-model builders.
NVIDIA also is the current largest contributor of open models and data to HuggingFace
The filing says about $11.9B goes to stockholders and up to $1B to employee retention equity, with closing expected in the first half of 2027 after regulatory approvals.
